Cataract is the most common eye disease leading to blindness in old age in Pakistan. Incidence of cataract is 14.7% in age group 50- 59, while 42% in age group 60-69% and 87.7% in age group 79 and above. Old age cataract generally occurs in people above 50 years of age. There is no medical treatment for it; the only solution is surgery. However, in Pakistan a large majority of older people are either not aware of the surgery procedure or cannot afford this surgery hence live with visual disability. We support older people with cataract surgeries so that they can restore their vision and be able to do their activities of daily living independently.
